Carmel Chamber of Commerce 110 The Great Outdoors Hike! Drive to Point Lobos State Reserve, just 2 miles south of Carmel, and hike along the rugged Central Coast. Enjoy views of sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals, and birds. Discover towering redwoods, coast live oaks, and Monterey pines at Garland Ranch Regional Park, just east on Carmel Valley Road. For a coastal hikes, head south to Big Sur and explore trails at Garrapata State Park, Andrew Molera State Park, Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, or Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. Maps are available at the Carmel Visitor Center. Surf’s Up! Head to Carmel Beach to play in the white sand, walk your dog, and watch the surfers catch some waves. At low tide, explore the tide pools at the north end of the bay. Visit Carmel River State Beach, just south of Carmel Beach, for bird watching from the lagoon. Head back to Carmel Beach for a picture perfect sunset over the ocean. Sail Away! Experience Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary by boat with Monterey Bay Whale Watch or Princess Monterey Whale Watching. Spot whales and other marine life year-round in Monterey Bay. Charter a private cruise or learn to sail with Shearwater Sailing. Bike or Kayak! Pedal or paddle with Adventures by the Sea. Rent electric bikes at Mad Dogs and Eng- lishmen, where you can even get a sidecar to take your dog with you. Art Walk! Carmel was originally a bohemian artist’s colony.
