Fall 2025

W e’ve all been in a position of being able to help others and gladly stepped up. It's important to our commu- nity and humanity. But... would you do it if you were asked to TRULY put your most precious asset - your time - in play? To lean in and help faces you've never seen and most likely will never see? Lisa Steiny didn't skip a beat when this was asked of her, to be a part of the 2025 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Visionary of the Year campaign for Monterey Bay (a territory that includes Mon- terey, Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties). Lisa said yes and went on to inspire an entire community in the ten weeks she spent edu- cating, sharing, reaching out, and ultimately breaking records! "I was deeply honored to present Lisa with the 2025 Visionary of the Year Award - a moment I'll never forget. Watching her shat- ter fundraising records in Monterey County was nothing short of electrifying. The money she and her team raised will create a last- ing impact for cancer patients and their families," shared 2025 Leadership Committee Co-Chair & 2024 Visionary of the Year, Julie Rosenau. "One of the most memorable parts of the night was handing her an old-fashioned record as a symbol of the one she broke - a powerful, joyful tribute to an extraordinary achievement." The collective team that Lisa led was called Lisa's Dream Team... Dreaming of a Cure. "I could never have accomplished raising $161,008, without my husband, Doug Steiny's love and support ; my friend Toula Hubbard's inspiration ; and my powerhouse team: Jen Rosenthal, Maryann DeLaFlor, Gina Nucci, Mary Luster, Deb- bie Lemos, Donna Langley, Dylan Steiny, Josie Steiny, Teresa Gi- ammanco, Alex Armanasco, Lou Killip, Bonnie Adams, Clare Nicolas, Terri Tsuchida, and Samantha Richards," shared Lisa. "I can't thank them enough, or the 428 individuals that con- tributed. It was beautiful and shows the power of our community when we come together. No amount was too small and contributed to the collective total, from the $10 to the $10,000, people stepped up and showed up to the levels they could and I'm forever grateful." Lisa's message for all of us, "I was diagnosed with Large Cell B Lymphoma in January 2014 ; relapsed with follicular cancer in 2018 ; relapsed again with Large Cell B Lymphoma in 2023. I can never thank enough the individuals who contributed before me, and the research they funded. If you are asked to contribute and/ or par- ticipate for a cause - do it. It IS a lot of work, and it is so rewarding. From the schools, to the playgrounds, to the specialized services provided to those in need - consider giving and saying yes!
