The Carmel House Tour is back for its 31st year. The tour will take place from noon to 4:00 on Saturday, September 20, at various locations around Carmel-by-the-Sea. O ne of the peninsula’s most beloved events—the Carmel House Tour—returns for its 31st year on September 20. The house tour, presented by The Carmel Heritage Society and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Monterey Bay, offers participants a rare oppor- tunity to step inside some of the most charming and architecturally important homes in Carmel-by- the-Sea. Over the years, this self-guided tour has highlighted some of the most enchanting cottages, breathtaking ocean-view retreats and history laden homes in town°properties that help de½ne the character of Carmel. According to the AIA, “This year’s tour will feature an exclusive selection of private residences, each with its own story, design inspiration and connection to the community.” Among the many special residences included in this year’s tour is the stunning Banyan House. The home was designed by Mark Mills, an apprentice to Frank Lloyd Wright, and is a signi½cant e\ample of Wrightian or Organic Architecture. The design incorporates desert masonry with local build- ing materials and features beautiful woodwork. Interesting details can be found around every corner in this architectural innovation of a home, one that is truly a work of art. The Carmel House Tour takes place from noon to 4:00 on Saturday, September 20, throughout Carmel-by-the-Sea.
