68 C A R M E L M A G A Z I N E • F A L L 2 0 2 6 G rowing up in Southern California, the child of blues musicians, Zoe Alexander says, “Music, particularly the blues, was ingrained in me from an early age.” He started his career while in his 20s, singing and playing harmonica with a band in Newport Beach and went on to formThe Money Band, a cover band with a wide reper- toire of music from the 1960s on. Early on, he had the luck of landing a gig at the first Fender Catalina Island Blues Festival and success continued to follow him as he and his band went on to work with Lisa Marie Presley, and later to tour with pioneering rock ‘n’ roll guitarist Link Wray. While touring with Wray, Alexander visited the Monterey Peninsula and was determined to return. An opportunity to perform at Pebble Beach during the AT&T Pro Am brought him back to stay. It’s been 20 years since, and The Money Band has been a fixture of the peninsula music scene ever since. Busy as ever, Alexander shares, “I’ve been working on three new singles, original songs, I’m putting out in the fall.” Off stage, Alexander is a family man, a proud father and husband, at home with wife Katy, stepson Blake and daughter Sasha, a 6 year old who is writing songs and following right along in her father’s footsteps.
