Kathy Sharpe has moved her delightful gallery and studio to a new location in the Court of the Fountains, where her colorfully captivating paintings are now on display. A rtist Kathy Sharpe was destined to be creative. She took classes at the Chicago Art Institute as a child, had a grand- father who was a costume designer for the Vienna Opera, and has a cousin who is a car- toonist and watercolorist. “As far back as I can remember, I was draw- ing on walls or painting on sofas and getting in trouble,” she says. Primarily an oil painter, Sharpe is drawn to ¾orals and aniQals Jor her suFNect Qatter When her husband, Bill, won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1990, she took up watercolors for ease of transport in their travels. Whimsical, colorful, fun and captivating, her works have been featured in dozens of shows, been printed on needlepoint canvases, and made the cover of the prestigious Carmel Bach Festival program. Her art is also printed on silk scarves made in Italy and she’s hand painted cards sold in luxury department stores. When not painting in one of her two home studios or teaching art classes, Sharpe is in her brand-new Carmel gallery/studio in the charm- ing Court of the Fountains. “I’m in my happy place when I’m painting,” she says. “It makes my heart sing.” Kathy Sharpe Studio & Gallery is located in the Court of the Fountains on Mission Street between Ocean and Seventh Avenues in Carmel.
