Although Ethan Walsh had always drawn,“I started seriously painting at 27,” he says,“and immediately got locked into it.” He had found his niche. Walsh grew up on the East Coast and lived in several places in the U.S. and Canada before landing with his wife and child on the Monterey Peninsula in 2018. “We liked that it was smaller and quieter, and I fell in love with the beauty of the area and its active art scene. It’s a fantastic place to paint.” His early work was centered around portraiture and illus- tration, but after landing here, he shifted to plein air. Today, he mostly works in oil, using acrylic as underpainting in some larger works.Walsh works at his home studio as well as in a cozy niche at the rear of his gallery on Forest Avenue in Pacific Grove. “We originally had a studio space on Cannery Row and a studio on Lighthouse Avenue prior to opening here in October 2025.”The space is airy and light filled, and the fact thatWalsh paints on site gives patrons the opportunity to get to know a working professional artist.
