Since retiring, she became active with Monterey History and Art Association’s Los Amigos group at Casa Serrano. She is a member of Monterey’s Junipero Parlor of the Native Daughters of the GoldenWest—in fact she is serving as president of the organization for 2026. She also serves the San Carlos Cathedral, where she has ush- ered for many years and works with the church’s Loaves and Fishes and food pantry programs, helping to feed those less fortunate. Collum is also a commissioner for Monterey’s Historic Preservation Commission, helping to keep historic buildings and the culture of California’s first capital alive. The Monterey Peninsula has an important historical record spanning centuries. It’s through the passion and dedication of volunteers like Cathy Collum that it’s preserved for future generations.
