Spring 2026
The beautiful Living Room of the Cypress Inn has been updated in an ongoing reno- vation. The Living Room is the pet-friendly place to be for live entertainment. C armel’s Cypress Inn, built in 1929, is the epitome of charm, steeped in local his- tory and welcoming to both pets and people. The legacy of actress Doris Day, who owned the hotel with Denny LeVett, is obvious in the memorabilia throughout the hotel. A remodel to the property is being overseen by designer Charles Gruwell and the late Denny LeVett’s wife, Jeanne. The bar area has been brightened and trompe l’oeil art on the walls by painter Lisa Haas adds whimsical charm to the Moorish inspired architecture. The project is being done in phases so that the hotel remains open, but guests can already enjoy new bar stools, a recently added fountain feature, updated ceilings and a newly updated Living Room. “We’re not changing the soul of Cypress,” assures General Manager Joseph Violi. “We’re just enhancing it.” Along with new lighting, new furniture, and adding wood floors to the guest rooms, the infrastructure of the property is being updated. The joyful character of the inn remains con- sistent, with evolving programming that includes live music, parties and always incredible food and cocktails. “The Cypress Inn is the most highly recog- nized property in Carmel-by-the-Sea,” Violi says. “It was amazing to begin with, and now we have this great plan to modernize the facility.” Cypress Inn is located at the corner of Lincoln and Seventh Avenue in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
