Summer 2024
The Joaquin Turner Gallery has moved to a new, much larger location directly on Dolores next to CAA. The new gallery is a must see for lovers of history and art. Photo: Kelli Uldall L ocal artist and gallerist Joaquin Turner is happy to announce the opening of his new gallery. Although just a short move, the new location is worlds away. Turner has moved his beautiful bohemian gallery just a few feet to the east, into the space previously occupied by James Rieser Fine Art (Rieser retired at the end of 2023). The new gallery—more than three times the size of his previous space°is filled with Turner’s own California tonalist paintings hung alongside the work of some of the most notable early art- ists (1880-1940) from the Carmel and Monterey art colonies as well as work by award-winning living California artists Brian Blood and Wyllis Heaton. Original works by William Ritschel, Arthur Mathews, Percy Gray, Charles Rollo Peters, Edgar Payne, Mary DeNeale Morgan, S.C. Yuan and other early California masters line the brilliantly painted walls of the welcoming space. Turner has put thoughtful consideration into every aspect of the gallery’s design, and it shows, from the antique furnishings to the carefully curated library of books on California art and local history. “I’ve always considered 6ieser’s gal - lery to be one of the best galleries and locations in town, and I’m happy to be able to continue sharing the important history of Carmel and Monterey art in this new, much larger space,” Turner shares. The new Joaquin Turner Gallery is located on Dolores Street between 5th and 6th in Carmel. For more information, call 831/869-5564 or visit www.joaquinturner.com .
