Summer 2024

Taylor and Bella are Miniature Scottish Highlanders, the world’s oldest registered cattle breed, and they live in one of the most beautiful pastures on earth. B ella and Taylor are a rare breed of bovine. They’re Miniature Scottish Highlanders, the world’s oldest registered cow. And these two long-haired ladies have a website of their own. They’re also lucky. Their enclosure—on Highway 1 just south of Carmel—is set in one of the most beautiful places on earth, featuring breathtaking views of Carmel, Pebble Beach and the blue 4acific. 3wners 6ich and (aryl 0arsen knew they couldn’t build on the pasture. “So, we thought ³0et’s have cows,’” 6ich says. Son Trent and daughter-in-law Elizabeth came up with the idea to adopt Bella and Taylor from a Sacramento breeder. “They were six weeks old and weighed pounds.” Today, these cows tip the scales at 1200. Now they’re a tourist attraction. “That wasn’t the intent, but it’s a pleasant result.” The web - site averages around 100 views each day, and passersby are constantly snapping selfies with this photogenic pair. 0ike many young human siblings, they often playfully butt horns (literally). Tayor’s left horn was broken in one spat, and it grew back crookedly. Bella is the Houdini cow, escaping through her fence occasionally. “Several times we’ve opened the shades in the morning to see her munching the grass in front of the window,” 6ich laughs.
