The accompanying auction raised more than $100,000 for charities, including the Eastwood Ranch Foundation. Photo: Kelli Uldall It’s icing on the cake that it’s all for charity. “Music can compel a good cause, and we use our skills to give back not to promote ourselves.” Vocalist (and Jim Carter’s daughter) Erin Carter says,“Everyone is extremely collaborative. We’re all on the same level knowing we only do this for charity.” A filmmaker by trade, she had done some musical theater pre- viously, but nothing on this level. “I was intimidated at first. Now I’m blessed to be a rock star four times a year.” Again, given the individual member’s commitments with other projects, each show might feature different play- ers. As a result, Carter says that there are “around two dozen” musicians who perform with BANC at one time or another. “‘We Are the World’ producer Quincy Jones posted a sign at the studio entry saying, ‘Check your ego at the door.’” Carter says.“That’s what we do. We’re a band of equals. Volunteerism is the blood and sinew that this band runs on. That’s very rare.” Indeed, Carter is proud of the fact that 100 percent of the funds raised go straight through to the designated charities. And those are always local to the venue. “The com- munity we’re playing in is the one that’s prosper- ing,” says Erin Carter. “When we leave a town, a children’s hospital may have $500,000, and we don’t,” her father adds. The music is a lively and fun mix of expertly executed covers and original songs, put togeth- er during a week of rehearsals prior to the tours. “Wild Horses,” “Gimme Shelter,” “Petty You Wreck Me,” “Superstition,” “Heroes.” “For me, BANC is the fruition of a dream to use music for the greater good,” Carter says. The Eastwood Foundation show raised more than $80,000 as part of the total of $1.8 million gar- nered during the six shows. In his 1971 hit “American Pie,” Don McLean posed the question, “Can music save your mortal soul?” It turns out that it most certainly can. And BANC proves that it can do much, much more. Everyone in the group fell in love with Carmel and the Eastwood Ranch Foundation, and is committed to return in March of 2027. “We’re already working on details for next year’s show,” Carter says. “We love Carmel and the Eastwood Foundation.” Stay tuned to www.thebanc.ca for details. It will come as no surprise to anyone that it didn’t take much arm twisting to get the band members to come to Carmel.
