Photo: Randy Tunnell * lorist Kim England apprenticed in the south of France, worked for a flower shop in Santa Cruz and, in 2000, opened her own business on Pearl Street in Monterey. Five years ago, she moved her business, Fleurs du Soleil, to its current location on Fremont Street which, coincidentally, was the site of another florist in the 1920s. Happy clients browse the enticing shop packed with gorgeous blooms, tantalizing arrangements and unique gifts. “Color and texture are my two favorite inspi- rations,” England says. “When designing, there is a ‘feeling’ that is created. Flowers amaze me with their beauty and the effect they can have.” England draws inspiration from each client, whether for a wedding with a specific color theme, a knitting group who wanted knitting needles and yarn included in the floral arrange - ment, or a birthday gift that spelled out the birthday girl’s name in flowers. Country clubs, hotels and businesses display England’s inviting arrangements prominently in their entryways, while some private residences subscribe to her Frequent Flower program. “- love finding unusual and unique elements,” England says. “Artichokes, giant allium, exotic grasses, textural pods, bleached elements and tropical flowers, for example, all seem to catch the attention of clients.” Fleurs du Soleil is located at 598 Fremont Street in Monterey.
