Fall 2023
Dennis Murphy, with the Dennis Murphy Big Band and vocalist Judy Capili, will entertain at this year’s Hospice Giving Foundation fundraiser at Tehama Golf Club. W hen local families face serious ill- ness and end-of-life challenges, many turn to organizations supported by Hospice Giving Foundation. Since 1997, the foundation has awarded more than $28 mil- lion for hospice and palliative services, pedi- atric palliative care, family support, educa- tional outreach, and related resources across Monterey and San Benito counties. The sold-out event, The Party, taking place October 14 at Tehama Golf Club, will raise money for Hospice Giving Foundation initiatives. “The Party helps us connect our community with the work that we’re doing. It’s also an oppor- tunity to celebrate those who are no longer with us in the physical world,” says Erik Lua, Hospice Giving Foundation director of philanthropy. In advance of the gathering, donors are invited to share images of loved ones who have passed. Those photos and videos will be included in a special presentation during the event. The eve- ning will also feature live music by jazz vocalist Julie Capili and the Dennis Murphy Big Band, plus a raffle giveaway with several prize packages. Hospice Giving Foundation is expanding resources for underserved Monterey County communities, while continuing to encourage conversations about topics that all families might find difficult. “Our hope is that we can break the stigma around speaking about hospice and end-of-life care,” Lua says.
