YUAN (1911-1974) T he first time that Chinese born artist S.C. Yuan saw this beautiful coastline was in 1952. Views such as this convinced him that the Monterey Peninsula was where he wished to make his permanent home. “Certain oriental features are traceable in almost everything he paints…in the illumination of a wave, in the details or design of a tree.” (Excerpted from Carmel Art Association Retrospective/1994-Irene Alexander, art critic, commenting on a 1953 exhibition). It had remained with the estate of his wife Patricia Ramsey until purchased by our gallery.
