A visit to Carmel’sWeston Gallery plotted the course of then-teenaged Potigian’s artistic life. Relocating here from his hometown of Fresno, he went to work at Gallery Sur in 1993. He purchased the business in 2000 and proudly showcases his work there, alongside several other highly tal- ented photographers. “Many times, the camera inspires me to get out and experience things I might not otherwise do. If I see a particular light in the sky, a cloud for- mation…it might stir me to go to a particular location and shoot.” Though he’s been creating his stunning images for decades, “I feel like my best work is ahead of me. My technical and creative skills have improved tremendously in the past five years.” He attributes that to maturity, confi- dence and “feeling more settled with life in general. I have a more relaxed perspective and inner guidance.” If past is prologue, the upcoming images coming from Potigian’s lens will be stunning indeed. Gallery Sur is located on 6th between Dolores and Lincoln in Carmel. For more information, visit www.gallerysur.com or call 831/626-2615. — Michael Chatfield ART I ST PROF I L E David L.
