Everyone’s Harvest has received two grants that will help expand the organization’s Fresh Rx Produce Prescription program in Monterey County. The initiative increases access and encourages families and individuals to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. The Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program, part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture, outlined a $500,000 grant for Everyone’s Harvest. The money will support three years of work, and the local nonprofit is one of just 43 grantees nationwide to receive the award. Everyone’s Harvest also received $200,000 from the Medi-Cal Capacity Grant Program of Central California Alliance for Health, an organization that supports innova- tive community-based health care services in Monterey, Santa Cruz and Merced counties. Everyone’s Harvest, founded by Iris Pep- pard in 2002, operates five certified farmers markets and leads health-related programs in Monterey County. Carmel concert choir, I Cantori di Carmel, is celebrating spring, performing concerts featur- ing Mozart’s Requiem—with full orchestra and soloists—at the Carmel Mission Basilica April 29th and 30th. R ichard Marx , who has sold more than 30 million albums during nearly four decades as a singer and songwriter, played a January show at Monterey’s Golden State Theatre. Birmingham-born English Beat , former senator and Saturday Night Live comedian Al Franken, reggae musicians J Boog and Likkle Jordee , and swing and jazz band Squirrel Nut Zippers also performed there in recent months…“Ellis River” author Nicki Ehrlich headlined a December reading at Cafe Carmel, hosted by the Pilgrim’s Way Community Bookstore & Secret Garden…The Vienna Boys Choir brought Austrian folk songs and holiday carols to the Sunset Center this winter. NewYork City-based Aquila Theatre also stopped by the Carmel venue to perform the Jane Austen classic,“Pride and Prejudice.” Cast members took part in a question-and-answer session with an audi- ence of Monterey County students…Actors Jason Bateman , Alfonso Ribeiro and Michael Peña competed in this year’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, together with chef Thomas Keller, musician Lukas Nelson , retired San Francisco 49er Steve Young , and other celebrities. Participating pro golfers included this year’s champion, Justin Rose , 2022 winner Tom Hoge , Brendon Todd and Brandon Wu .
