He knew that sooner or later he’d have to put Ohio in the rearview and head for the bright lights. He landed in LA, performing his original material before being tapped to tour as singer/bassist with 1970s era hitmakers Three Dog Night. That was a great gig—it was my first taste of the big time—but I always wanted to do my own songs.” Back in California, he did just that before joining forces with 1980s rockers Night Ranger. “We wrote new songs, but had to perform the hits, like ‘Don’t Tell Me You Love Me.’ ” Those new tunes formed the band’s 1995 album “Feeding Off the Mojo.” Recently, Moon realized another lifelong dream: living on the Monterey Peninsula.“My wife and I first started vacationing here when we were dat- ing and always thought about how cool it would be to live here.” The stars aligned, the Moons sold their LA home and bought their current Monterey property. Moon is once again concentrating on producing his own material, forming The Gary Moon Band with veteran Carmel drum- mer Jamey DeMaria. — Michael Chatfield MUS I C I AN PROF I L E Gary Moon Photo: Kelli Uldall
