B orn in Lebanon and raised in Paris, Sylva & Cie. jewelry designer Sylva Yepremian moved to Southern California at the age of 18. “I have inspiration from all kinds of cultures,” she shares. The designer, who is the daughter of a mas- ter bench jeweler, loves sharing a story through her pieces, sometimes based on the historical reclaimed vintage gemstones she uses. “Most new jewelry is made with perfectly calibrated stones that are cut by laser and mapped out by a computer,” she explains. “For me, having the link between the mine that no longer produces, the cutter’s hand, the way that these were hand cut with unexacting propor- tions…gives immediate character to a piece.” “The diamonds were cut by hand to be viewed F] GERHPIPMKLX ² WLI WE]W ±;LIR ]SY ½RMWL E TMIGI of jewelry with reclaimed bold European cuts, there’s an instant magic to the piece.” Yepremian explains that an aged, precious, found attitude occurs with her pieces, that are often large in scale.“I’m not for the shy, not for XLI YFIV JIQMRMRI©[LIR - ½PP YT E TMIGI [MXL these gemstones that aren’t as refractive as the modern brilliant diamonds, it just makes them so much more wearable.” Yepremian is holding a Sylva & Cie. trunk show at Augustina’s on Ocean Avenue in Carmel during Car Week, August 15-18, or by appointment.
