Winter-2022

Gary Koeppel, a long time gallerist, now shows the work of just one artist, Van Megert, an artist best known for his paintings of Pebble Beach. G ary Koeppel has been in the art business for 54 years, operating galleries in Big Sur, at Pebble Beach and in Maui. He and his wife Emma have represented more than 2,000 artists in that time. Now they represent only one, renowned Pebble Beach painter Jerry Van Megert, and they’ve turned their gorgeous Carmel home into a gallery to showcase his exemplary work. Van Megert, as he is known profession- ally, has been painting Monterey Peninsula- area scenes since he arrived here in 1969. “I immediately fell in love with the peninsula. It’s beautiful,” Van Megert muses. For many years, he lived and painted a stone’s throw from The Lodge at Pebble Beach. That stunning location inspired many of his works, including scenes of the Del Monte Forest and the greens and fairways of some of the world’s most renowned golf courses. The Koeppel’s home is perfectly suited to the display of Van Megert’s paintings. Its white walls and carpet and gallery lighting are seemingly custom made to highlight the subtle hues of the painter’s work. Van Megert’s work is shown by appointment only.
